(Plosive) April Showers ☔️🎙️

As it turns out, launching a radio show around an Easter/election advertising season is a bit challenging… 🐇🍁

A silver USB microphone stands on a wooden desktop in front of a stack of children's books, with a small blue-and-white-polka dotted toadstool and black cat curtains in the background.

It never rains but it pours, especially when you can’t stop spitting into your microphone.

So far I have: broken in a new mic, despaired over new software, scrapped my demo, cried, whacked myself in the nose with my headphones, cried more, continued my almighty battle with volume levels, made my joints crack so loudly from sitting in my recording nook that it sounded like pop rocks on the playback, spat plosives* everywhere, made a homemade blast guard from pantyhose to stop myself from spitting plosives everywhere, had a CONSTANT cold and nasally voice, cursed my mouth breathing, snorted far more than you’d think a person was capable of snorting, fled down the stairs to avoid hearing myself on the air, missed out on a bunch of sleep, forgotten my taxes, neglected my blog, questioned all my life choices, and…

…taped** three episodes of (Half a) Story Hour!  Two have broadcast locally and they’ll all be up on the site and audio services soon.

Stay tuned for May 🌷📻🌷…

*Plosives are the explosive “puff” sounds on a recording when you Pronounce some consonants into a microphone, esPecially “Ps.” 😊

**”Taped,” says the ancient old lady who grew up respooling cassette tapes with her fingers. 📼
