“Outside Bones,” a Mini Masterpiece 🦷
Happy Friday! From Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, a tiny masterpiece of defamiliarisation and characterisation by writers Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and Azie Mira Dungey, triple-threat acting/singing/dancing brilliance by Tituss Burgess as a very ill Titus Andromedon (with a virtuosa comedic foil moment from Judy Gold), and first-class jingle magic by Jeff Richmond (also on the piano, also Fey’s husband)… not to mention the killer cho(m)ps of director Beth McCarthy-Miller and the rest of the crew. Genius takes a village, plus.
Try(dent) not to get it stuck in your head! 🦷
Tituss Burgess as a terribly ill Titus Andromedon auditioning for a Trident commercial in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Season 2, Episode 12: “Kimmy Sees a Sunset!” (Netflix).
Like all good bits this became a runner throughout the series, called back in brilliant throwaway moments like Titus’s “hold muzak” when he pretends to have a personal assistant: “Outside bones, outside bones / Your teeth are your skeleton escaaaaping…”
Genius, plus.
